I think these peanut butter pretzel energy bars are by far some of the best tasting bars I have made. I absolutely love anything that is sweet and salty. These bars were sweet from honey and then they had the salty crunch from the pretzels. Yum!
One of the better parts about these delicious no-bake bars was that they were super easy to make. Just add all of the ingredients to a food processor, place the mixture in a baking dish, and cool to let it set.
These are not specifically protein bars, however I did incorporate some into the recipe. I used the Musclepharm vanilla combat protein powder. It has a really delicious taste, and of course a little protein is always better than none.
I made these energy bars because I am always looking for a good bar that I can eat while I am on the bike. When you are on the bike 3.5 hours like I was yesterday, you gotta have some goodĀ food to fuel you through the ride. There is nothing better than biting into a delicious sweet and salty energy bar when you are hungry on the bike.
They combine the perfect energy sources to keep me going on a ride. The honey has fast acting carbs to get me going right away. The oats and the whole wheat flour are complex carbs that will burn slowly so that I can keep going for a long time.
I don’t think I will be having store bought energy bars anymore. After having these, there is no reason to. They don’t have preservatives and some of those nasty ingredients you might find in most bars. And of course they are also way cheaper to make your own. That sounds like a win-win to me!

Ingredients
Energy Bars
- 1 1/2 cups (120g) old fashioned oats
- 3/4 cup (93g) whole wheat flour
- 1 scoop (34g) Musclepharm vanilla combat protein powder
- 2 tbsp. (28g) whole flax seeds
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 cup (128g) natural creamy peanut butter
- 1/2 cup (168) honey
- 4 pretzel rods (40g)
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract (optional)
Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Drizzle
- 3 tbsp. (18g) peanut flour
- 1 tbsp. (5g) cocoa powder
- 2 tbsp. granulated stevia or erythritol
Instructions
- Add oats, flour, protein powder, flax seeds, and cinnamon to a food processor. Heat honey and peanut butter in microwave for 20-30 seconds. Add vanilla extract to honey and peanut butter and mix well.
- Pour honey and peanut butter mixture evenly into food processor. Blend until all ingredients are incorporated together. It will be a thick and sticky dough consistency.
- Break pretzels into smaller pieces and add to food processor. Pulse a few times until pretzels are evenly mixed in.
- Add energy bar dough to a 6×8 inch baking dish lined with parchment paper. Use another piece of parchment paper over top to flatten out mixture evenly into baking dish. Freeze for about 30 minutes or refrigerate for at least an hour to let set. The longer you let sit in the fridge, the better they will set and won’t be as sticky.
- Add peanut flour, cocoa powder, and stevia to a small bowl. Mix with enough water (1.5-2 tbsp.) to make it a thick peanut butter consistency. Add peanut butter mixture to small plastic bag. Cut off end and pipe mixture over top of energy bars.
- slice into 18 bars and enjoy.
