Mocha Banana Protein Shake

January 18, 2018 by Spencer Miller

I really can’t believe that it’s 2018. It felt like just yesterday we were in January of 2017! Anyway, the best way to start off the year is with a healthy and delicious caffeinated mocha banana protein smoothie.
Lately I have been buying a bunch of bananas and letting them get nice and ripe. Once they are ripe, I peel them and throw them in the freezer. It is perfect because then I always have ripe, frozen bananas ready for protein shakes and smoothies.

Today, I wanted a tasty post workout shake, but I also wanted a bit of caffeine so I could have energy to get some work done. I figured with my frozen bananas and love for chocolate, why not make a mocha banana protein shake?
For the chocolate flavor I added some unsweetened cocoa powder. And for some awesome coffee flavor I added Ascent cappuccino Native Fuel whey protein and a shot of espresso. This was the perfect way to get my morning going!

This creamy mocha banana protein shake is the perfect healthy and delicious post workout snack or morning pick-me-up.
Ingredients
  • 2/3 cup milk (I used unsweetened almond)
  • 1/3 cup vanilla Greek yogurt (or preferred yogurt)
  • 1 large ripe banana, frozen*
  • 1 scoop Ascent cappuccino whey protein powder (link above in post)
  • 1/2 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder (more if you like a stronger chocolate taste)
  • 1 shot of espresso, cooled**
Instructions
  1. Add all ingredients to a strong blender. Blend until smooth and creamy.
  2. Pour into a mason jar/glass. Sprinkle with some extra cocoa powder or chocolate chips.
  3. Garnish with a banana slice. Enjoy!

Notes
*I like to peel and freeze my banana once they are nice and ripe. It makes them perfect for smoothies. If it’s not frozen, that is ok. The shake just won’t be quite as thick/cold. [br]**If you don’t have an espresso machine, use 1/4 cup strong coffee/cold brew.
