So what do you do when you have chocolate on your mind and a couple of really ripe bananas in the fridge? You make banana cream protein brownies of course. These are delicious banana bread flavored brownies with mini chocolate chips and topped with banana cream frosting. Wow. That was a mouth full. A tasty mouthful, that is.
I think these had to be some of the best brownies that I have made. They are super moist and dense just like a brownie should be. And the best part is that they are about double the size of a normal brownie, yet they are still only 180 calories each. And by the way, they are packed with a whopping 16 grams of protein. That is about as much as a typical protein bar. Which would you rather eat, a chocolatey brownie or a chalky tasting protein bar?
These were initially just going to be protein brownies with a banana flavor because of the ripe bananas that I used in the batter. I really like how the taste of the banana brownies were and decided to take it a step further and top them with a banana cream protein frosting. The frosting was super easy to make. All you need is banana cream protein powder, plain Greek yogurt, and sweetener of choice.
To make these brownies filled with as much protein as they are, I used 3 different protein powders in the whole recipe. For the brownies, I used Musclepharm’s chocolate milk combat protein powder and chocolate pea protein powder from Nutrasumma. When cooking with pea protein, it has a very similar consistency to casein protein.Ā The pea protein can be substituted for casein protein in this recipe.
The third protein was the banana cream combat powder that I used in the banana cream frosting. The brownies were good by themselves, but adding the frosting really made them a delicious treat. And by the way, I even threw some mini chocolate chips into the batter just for the heck of it. They were definitely worth putting in there.
