I feel like chocolate and coconut is one of those highly underrated combinations. I always do chocolate and peanut butter, but chocolate and coconut is pretty dang awesome. In fact, German Chocolate Cake is one of my favorite cakes because it has chocolate and coconut! These chocolate coconut protein bites are sure to please!
The base of these, as you’d expect, has some chocolate protein powder. They can’t be chocolate coconut protein bites without chocolate protein powder. I used BSN Syntha-6 Chocolate Milkshake. For more chocolate flavor (because you can never have too much chocolate in my opinion), I added some melted dark chocolate chips and cocoa powder.
The coconut flavor comes from, you guessed it, coconut. I used the unsweetened shredded coconut to lower the sugars and calories from typical sweetened coconut. In addition to the shredded cocoa powder, I added some melted coconut oil. This helped the balls to mix up a little better, and give a more dense, fudge-like texture. And, it added a nice little extra hint of coconut flavor.
Protein bites like these are definitely one of my favorite go-to snacks to make. They are so easy to make, and then perfect to store in the fridge and grab whenever you need a little snack. Heck, I have even crumbled them up and put them in my oatmeal before. There are so many delicious variations you can make too!

- Total Time: 20 minutes
- Yield: 8 protein bites 1x
Description
These chocolate coconut protein bites are the perfect combination of decadent chocolate and delicious coconut in a easy to make protein bite that is sure to satisfy your chocolate cravings.
Ingredients
- 3 scoops BSN Syntha-6 chocolate milkshake protein powder
- 1/3 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1/2 tbsp. Coconut oil (melted)
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
- 2 tbsp. almond butter*
- 2–4 tbsp. milk (any milk is fine**)
- 1 Pinch salt
Instructions
- In a microwave safe bowl, add dark chocolate chips and coconut oil. Microwave for about 1 minute. Stir. Microwave again for another 30 seconds, or until melted. Add almond butter and mix into the melted chocolate.
- In a separate bowl, add protein powder, cocoa powder, shredded coconut, and salt. Mix.
- Add melted chocolate/almond butter mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir. It will take some work to get it all mixed together.
- It will be crumbly and probably too dry to form into balls. Add 2 tbsp. of milk. Mix again. Depending on the protein powder, may need another 2 tbsp. or so of milk to get it to a consistency where it can be rolled into balls.
- Once all mixed together, roll into 9 balls. Sprinkle the top of each with some extra coconut if desired. Place in fridge for about 10 minutes to set up, and enjoy!
Notes
*Peanut butter can be used instead of almond butter. Really, any nut butter will work.
**Depending on the protein powder, type of shredded coconut, and exact amounts of cocoa powder will determine how much milk is needed. Start with 2 tbsp. and add more little by little so that they don’t become too wet/gooey to roll into balls.
