If you are like me, then I definitely had you at double chocolate on this one. Why have one layer of chocolate when you can have two? These double chocolate protein donuts are the perfect treat made with a fluffy chocolate protein cake donut and then dipped in dark chocolate. Trust me, you will not be disappointed!
The inspiration for these came from the last time I was at a donut shop here in Indianapolis. It’s called Long’s Donuts, and if you ever come to Indy, they are a must. Best donuts you will ever have. Anyway, when I was there I got a chocolate cake donut… If you can’t already tell, I am quite obsessed with chocolate, hence why I made these chocolate protein donuts.
Anyway, I won’t lie to you and say that these tasted as good as that donut, but I will say that it probably has about 1/3 of the calories and 5x the protein. So, there’s that. If you care about calories, these double chocolate protein donuts are definitely a better option.
Of course to make them chocolate all the typical chocolate ingredients went in such as cocoa powder and chocolate protein powder. I think part of the reason the chocolate flavour of these was so good, however, was because of the rich cocoa powder combined with the natural chocolate ONE Vegan Protein Powder.
If you are like me and love chocolate ….. and donuts, you will certainly be happy after making these!

- Bake at 325F. for 6-7 minutes, or until a knife comes out clean. It is better to under-bake them a little so that they do not dry out.
- Once cooked, let completely cool. Melt chocolate chips in the microwave. Dip each donut into the melted dark chocolate.
- Top with sprinkles if desired. They are also delicious with a bit of sea salt on top as well!
Notes
*Do NOT substitute a whey protein powder in this recipe. It cooks much differently than a vegan protein or whey / casein blend protein. Vegan works best in this recipe but a whey / casein blend will work as well, you just may need to slightly reduce the wet ingredients (greek yogurt and applesauce).
**Truvia baking blend is a stevia/sugar mixture. It has 1/2 the sugar of regular granulated sugar, but it is sweeter so you don’t have to use as much. It can be found in the baking aisle of most grocery stores. If you can’t find it, you can use 1/2 cup regular granulated sugar.
